Joshua Carlton is a tattooer who specializes in the dark side of realism. Unlike many others in the genre, he constructs tattoos that are built to last, laid upon foundations of heavy black.
Due to the photoreactivity of colored pigments used in tattooing, it is important to build tattoos that will remain readable even after years of sun damage, whether the colors hold fast or not. The ability to use heavy black while keeping the tattoo from feeling 'bottom heavy' in the tonal range is not easy, yet Carlton walks the line with total control.
